The Women’s Movement in the
United States refers to a period of feminist activity which began during the
early 1960’s and lasted through the early 1990’s. While the first wave of
feminism in the late 19th century and early 20th century focused
on legal obstacles of equality such as voting rights and property rights, the
second wave feminism beginning in the 1960’s was concerned with a wide range of
inequalities such as official legal inequalities, sexuality, family, workplace
and reproductive rights.
